The California Highway Patrol is asking for the public's help to find a driver connected to a fatal hit-and-run early Sunday morning on a Concord highway, CHP officials said.

Around 2:10 a.m., an unknown vehicle was traveling on southbound state Highway 242 just south of Olivera Road, according to CHP officials.

At the same time, for an unknown reason, a pedestrian was lying in one of the highway's southbound lanes.

The vehicle then struck the pedestrian before fleeing the scene. Officers were unable to locate the involved vehicle, CHP officials said.

Officers do not know if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, CHP officials said.

The identity of the pedestrian has not been released and is pending notification of the next of kin.

Anyone with information about the fatal incident is asked to contact the CHP at (800) 835-5247.
