An inmate died of an apparent suicide Thursday morning at the Martinez Detention Facility, Contra Costa County sheriff's officials said.
A deputy was notified around 7:15 a.m. of the death at the county jail, according to the sheriff's office.
An inmate, whose identity has not been released, was found slumped over inside a shower, sheriff's officials said. A deputy and medical staff attempted resuscitation efforts, but the inmate was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sheriff's officials reported that a bed sheet was tied to the shower frame where the inmate was found.
The countywide officer-involved fatal incident protocol was invoked, meaning the county District Attorney's Office and the sheriff's office will investigate the incident.
