The Valley Transportation Authority will hold a workshop on Friday to discuss what happens next because it looks as if Measure B, the sales tax increase to extend BART to Santa Clara, will fall short of enough votes to win.
Although a majority favored the measure, it has not made the two-thirds vote needed for approval.
San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed said he believes BART will make it to San Jose eventually.
He said there is enough local and state money to get the project started.
