San Francisco Mayor Closer to Goal of Free Wireless for Entire City

San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom is one step closer toward his goal of providing free Internet to all city residents.
Newsom announced the expansion of the "Network of Community Networks" yesterday.
He announced the network outside the city's Sunnydale housing development, where residents now have access to wireless internet.
"To improve our economy, it is important that we bridge the digital divide," Newsom said.
The Sunnydale housing development joined a list of other San Francisco affordable housing sites already equipped with free wireless Internet through the city's Department of Technology.
In addition to free Internet access, the Department of Technology has worked to ensure low-income and disadvantaged residents have access to complimentary training, low cost computers and support, Newsom said.
