A man was shot during a robbery while out late Tuesday night in the East Bay, police said.
The Hayward couple in their 40s were walking in the area of Florida Street and Dolphin Lane at about 11:45 p.m. when they were approached by a man with a gun, police said.
The robber pointed the gun at them and took both of their cellphones before shooting the man for an unknown reason. The suspect then ran to a large candy-apple red SUV and drove off, police said.
The male victim was taken to a hospital and required surgery, police Sgt. Ryan Cantrell said. The extent of his injuries was not immediately disclosed.
His wife was not injured, police said. Police described the suspect as a black man in his early 40s with a medium complexion. He is tall and thin and was wearing a multi-colored jacket during the robbery.
