Novato High Track Coach Arrested On Charges of Sexual Relations With Girl, 17

A high school track coach was arrested Thursday for multiple charges related to inappropriate sexual relations with a 17-year-old girl at Novato High School, according to the Marin County Sheriff.

Steven Deschler was taken into custody at the Oakland International Airport on his way home from a trip to Hawaii, and is currently in custody at the Marin County Jail. His bail was set at $100,000 for four counts of sexual relations with a minor, including lewd and lascivious conduct.

Pittman said that the relationship between the 64-year old high school track coach and a 17-year old recent high school graduate was revealed when the the teen's mother contacted authorities after finding evidence of sexual relations on her daughter's cell phone.

The girl has known Deschler since she was a freshman track athlete at Novato High School. The Marin County Sheriff's Office said their alleged sexual relationship did not begin until April.

A judge also issued an emergency protective order preventing Deschler from coming into contact with the girl.

Courts were closed on Friday and it was not immediately possible to determine who is representing Deschler.
