The Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office have arrested a Discovery Bay 18-year-old in connection with the deadly stabbing of a 9-year-old boy.
Authorities arrested William "Billy" Shultz sometime before 4 p.m. on Sunday at the hospital where he drove to be treated for his own injuries after an alert recognized him, sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee said. Shultz is a friend of the boy's 9-year-old brother.
"One of the nurses at Kaiser remembered seeing the boy's photo on a social media post and contacted us, and he was arrested at Kaiser emergency," Contra Costa County Sheriff's Deputy Ken Westermann said.
Shultz's arrest follows a report of a stabbing on the 1900 block of Frost Way at 10:03 a.m. Sunday.
When deputies arrived on scene, the boy, later identified by neighbors and friends as 9-year-old Jordon "Jordy" Almgren, had already been taken to the hospital by a family member, police said. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. Jordon was a third grader at Timber Point Elementary School, and played on a Little League team in town.
Neighbors said Shultz was always at the family's home and may have been living here temporarily. Some say he was kicked out of his own home, and may have been kicked out of the boy's home at some point as well.
Detectives are trying to establish a motive in the case.

One of Shultz's friends, Robbie Jones, said Schultz was a senior at Liberty High School.
"I just saw him at the gym," Jones said. "It didn't seem like anything was wrong with him."
Deputies said they are investigating Shultz's mental health background, but will not confirm whether he was last detained on a mental disorder hold for someone who may be dangerous.
Jordon was a third grader at Tinder Point Elementary School. Teachers, classmates and neighbors started a memorial for their friend.
Still in disbelief, they are saying goodbye to the funny, kind boy who loved basketball.
