CHP investigating police shooting on I-280 in San Francisco

The California Highway Patrol is investigating a police shooting that took place on southbound Interstate 280 near Mariposa Street in San Francisco Wednesday afternoon.

Police said the initial call at around 4:30 p.m. came in as a pedestrian on the freeway

According to the CHP, an officer arrived the area and "a struggle ensued with the pedestrian." The pedestrian was struck by the gunfire.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital and is expected to survive, CHP said late Wednesday night.

A knife, the CHP said was suspected to be in possession by the pedestrian, was recovered at the area.

All southbound lanes in the area were shut down while police investigated the incident.

CHP said there are no reports an officer was injured in the shooting.

No other information was immediately available.
