Santa Clara County Sheriff Arrests Peninsula Man for Allegedly Molesting a Child

The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office has arrested a peninsula man for allegedly molesting a child and possessing child pornography.

On April 27, detectives served a search warrant at Gregory Helfrich's residence in Los Altos Hills, where they found several printed images of child pornography in his bedroom, child pornography internet searches and saved websites in his Favorites folder. Helfrich was arrested and booked into the county's Main Jail.

NBC Bay Area has been told by sources that Helfrich was arrested for an alleged assault years ago on a victim who recently came forward and is currently in his late 20s. At the time of the crimes, the victim was between the ages of five and 12 and was repeatedly sexually assaulted by the suspect, the sheriff's office said.

During those years, Helfrich showed the victim child pornography.

Sources did not give specific details of the alleged offense but say there are concerns there might be more victims because “he was very involved in the community.”

The sheriff's office spokesman declined to comment further on the case. Anyone with information regarding the case are urged to contact the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office Detective Unit at 208-808-4500.
