What to Know: San Jose VTA Yard Mass Shooting

NBC Universal, Inc. VTA officials on Thursday held a press conference to honor the employees they lost in a mass shooting at a San Jose rail yard. A moment of silence was also held for the victims.

Law enforcement officials continue to investigate a deadly mass shooting at a Valley Transportation Authority maintenance yard in San Jose.

VTA Service Impacted

  • Light rail services has been suspended as of 12 noon Wednesday.
  • Substitute bus bridges that were set up are no longer offered due to limited staff. Passengers should look to the regular bus network that serves the majority of riders who use public transit the most, VTA said.
  • According to VTA officials, they are trying to get organized as quickly as possible to ensure bus bridges run along the light rail routes.
  • Commuters with any questions should contact VTA's customer service line at 408-321-2300 to get a personalized bus route planning.

The Santa Clara County District Attorney provided the following information on resources available to assist anyone who was present, had family present, or affected by the VTA yard shooting.

Services Hotline

The hotline 408-209-8356 is staffed to answer your questions and connect you to services from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday, June 4.

In-Person Counseling

Services at VTA and Union Hall: In person grief support is being provided 24 hours a day at the four VTA yards and the Union Hall by the VTA Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and by the Bill Wilson Center (BWC) Team. Counselors will be at the yards Tuesday through Saturday and at the Union Hall Tuesday through Friday.

Bill Wilson Center: In person grief support is provided by the BWC's Centre for Living with Dying and Critical Incident Stress Management Team. In-person counseling can be scheduled by calling 408-243-0222 during business hours. The team will provide in-person critical incident response at the location of your choice: home, work or the BWC office at 1671 The Alameda, #2.
