Steve Wozniak on Apple Watch: ‘This Isn't the Company That Apple Was Originally'

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak worries about what the Apple Watch says about the direction in which the company is headed.

In a Reddit AMA ("Ask Me Anything") on Wednesday, the tech innovator said that he loves his own Apple Watch, but thinks that the device is straying from the company’s creative roots.

“…I love my Apple Watch, but it’s taken us into a jewelry market where you’re going to buy a watch between $500 or $1000 based on how important you think you are as a person,” Wozniak said.

He continued: “The only difference is the band in all those watches…Well, this isn’t the company that Apple was originally, or the company that really changed the world a lot.”

Other than his disdain for the Apple Watch, Wozniak had flattering things to say about Tim Cook, who became the company’s CEO after Steve Jobs died of cancer.

“So I approve very strongly of Tim Cook and the new Apple,” he said. “I dearly miss Steve Jobs too, but, that's all.”

Although the techie left company in 1985 to pursue his own projects, he said that it's still a huge part of his identity.

“Well, obviously Apple is the most important thing ever in my life,” he said. “And it would be no matter what I might go off and try to do outside and say. No I would only say one thing, I am Apple.”
