An 8-month-old puppy was found dead hanging from a tree on Long Island, authorities said.
The pit bull mix pup's body was discovered on Monday in the woods near Martha and Bellport avenues in Bellport, according to the SPCA. A passerby alerted a worker from the Brookhaven animal shelter, who then picked up the dog’s body and called police.
The dog had no obvious signs of trauma, but a necropsy found that the animal had been strangled and beaten in the stomach.
The Suffolk County SPCA and the Guardians of Rescue, a non-profit group, have offered a $6,000 reward for information about anyone who may have been responsible.
