US Hikers Detained in Iran Get a Trial Date

One American hiker is home and the other two could soon follow.

The mother of former UC Berkeley student Shane Bauer, Cindy Hickey, told the Associated Press that her son and his friend Josh Fattal have a trial date set for Nov. 6 in Iran.

The two have been held since July 2009 in Iran, after they were detained near the country's border with Iran. Fellow UC Berkeley student Sarah Shourd was also detained but she was released earlier this month. Their captivity has equaled the detention of the 52 Americans that were held in Iran in 1979.

The Iranian government accused the trio of being spies for the US government, which are charges all three have denied.

Hickey said the families of the two men still being held are hopeful that they will be able to return back to the US after the trial.
