Anthony Davis Will Not Play in 49ers' Game at Panthers

Backup offensive lineman Anthony Davis reported concussion symptoms after Thursday's practice and will not be available for Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers, the team announced on Friday.

The 49ers were scheduled to leave the Bay Area on Friday afternoon to travel to Charlotte, North Carolina. Because Davis does not have enough time to fulfill the return-to-play requirements, the 49ers were expected to travel without him.

Davis was a full participant in the 49ers' practices on Wednesday and Thursday. The practice Thursday was the team's one padded practice of the week. He did not take part in the 49ers' walk-through practice on Friday and was officially listed as "out" for the team's game against the Panthers.

Davis' absence does not impact the 49ers' starting lineup. Trent Brown beat out Davis for the starting job at right tackle. Davis was originally scheduled to be the starter at right guard, but Andrew Tiller was elevated into the starting lineup on the Saturday before the 49ers' season-opener on Monday night against the Los Angeles Rams.

Davis did not practice last Saturday in what both he and coach Chip Kelly called a "misunderstanding." There was some question whether Davis would return to the team before he appeared for practice the next day.

Rookie John Theus is expected to be active for Sunday's game as one of the 49ers' two backup offensive lineman. Theus, a fifth-round draft pick from Georgia, saw action at both tackle positions during training camp.

Tiller is listed as questionable due to an ankle injury. He was limited in each practice this week but is expected to be available.

The 49ers released their official injury report on Friday, and defensive lineman Glenn Dorsey was not listed, indicating he is healthy enough to play. Dorsey, who sustained a torn ACL in November, did not appear in the 49ers' four exhibition games or the season opener on Monday.

For the Panthers, running back Jonathan Stewart was a full participant in practice Friday. He is listed as questionable but is expected to play.
