Are the Giants buying or selling ahead of the July 31 trade deadline? No one knows at this point. Probably not even president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi.
Thanks to the hot streak that came out of nowhere, the Giants have put Zaidi between a rock and a hard place.
Or does put the future of the franchise at risk by holding on to his trade chips and going for an NL Wild Card spot?
With the Giants playing well, Zaidi might not pick a route for another five or six days.
But MLB.com's Mark Feinsand, citing a source close to the Giants, reported Monday that a good offer could change Zaidi's mind.
Giants might be the most interesting pre-Deadline team to watch. Most assume the buy/sell decision could go down to the wire, but a source close to the team isn't so sure. "Can't turn down a good return when it presents itself." MadBum, Smith, Watson, Dyson all drawing interest.— Mark Feinsand (@Feinsand) July 22, 2019

The Giants are 14-3 in July and sit 2 1/2 out of the second NL Wild Card spot. If Zaidi is intent on selling Bumgarner, Smith and the other relievers, he can set a high price and tell interested teams to meet the price. If it's an offer Zaidi can't refuse, he has to do it and worry about justifying it later.
