Oakland City Hall Lights Up as '24-Carat' Golden State Warriors Head to NBA Western Conference Finals

The city of Oakland is revving up for the Golden State Warriors advance to the Western Conference Finals for the second time in two years by adjusting its lighting display at Oakland City Hall, according to officials.

City officials said in addition to the blue and gold lights on the cupola, the building is now illuminated nightly with energy-efficient LED lighting.

"The 24-carat Golden State Warriors light up the court so Oakland is returning the favor and proudly lighting up City Hall in honor of our team's NBA playoffs run," Oakland Mayor Libby Schaff said in a statement.

According to city officials, buttons displaying the message, "Oakland is Warriors Ground" are also being distributed to front-line hospitality workers from airport ambassadors, to taxi drivers, to hotel front desk staff.

In addition, single-space Smart parking meters also display the "Oakland is Warriors Ground" message.

Citywide support has been prevalent since the Warriors began their post-season appearance in April, with distribution of rally cards, AC Transit bus headers reading "GO WARRIORS" and the Golden State Warriors Flag flying on City Hall.

The Warriors fell 102-108 Monday night to the Oklahoma City Thunder at home in game one of the Western Conference Finals. Game two between the Warriors and Thunder will be Wednesday, May 18, at Oracle Arena at 6 p.m.
