UPDATE: A shooting that injured a 14-year-old boy on the Delta de Anza Trail in Pittsburg on Sunday night was accidental according to East Bay Regional Park District police Lt. Jon King.

The shooting was reported shortly before midnight just west of Railroad Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found a Pittsburg teen with a gunshot wound to his abdomen.

He was taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, where he underwent surgery. The boy is expected to survive.

Investigators say the boy was with a group of four to five teens who were walking on the trail. The group apparently had a handgun that was stolen earlier in the day during a residential burglary. Police say they were firing it indiscriminately when the victim was shot.

Investigators believe the teens may have been drinking alcohol as well.

During the investigation, police found a backpack containing stolen property from several other residential burglaries that the teens may have committed.

As of Monday afternoon, no arrests had been made in connection with the shooting or the burglaries.

King says investigators would likely take the case to the Contra Costa County District Attorney's office to have charges filed before making any arrests.

Police say another person has been wounded in a shooting on the Delta de Anza Regional Trail in Pittsburg, the third shooting on the trail in two months.
East Bay Regional Parks Police said the victim was shot at about 11:55 p.m. Sunday. They released no further details.
The Contra Costa Times reported that 20-year-old Marcus Jackson was shot in the head on July 6, about a quarter-mile east of Sunday's shooting. Jackson died after spending about a week on life support.
Investigators do not believe Jackson's shooting was random, and said he had been the target of earlier shooting attempts.
On May 9, about a half-mile east of where Jackson was attacked, police said another man was shot in the shoulder in an apparent gang-related incident along the trail.
