Derek Hough already has his next gig lined up. The "Dancing With the Stars" fan-favorite has joined the cast of NBC's "Hairspray Live!," the network's next live musical production set to air in December. Hough will take on the role of Corny Collins. James Marsden played the character in the big screen version of the musical.

Martin Short has also joined the cast as Wilbur Turnblad, Edna's husband. NBC previously announced Jennifer Hudson has signed on to play Motormouth Maybelle and Harvey Fierstein will take on the role of Edna Turnblad.

"We are very happy to have the inimitable Martin Short to play Edna's loving husband, Wilbur," Robert Greenblatt, chairman of NBC Entertainment, said in a statement. "We welcome Marty to the network in May in his new variety show with Maya Rudolph and we think he will be the perfect long-term companion to Harvey's Edna. And hands-down the best dancer on television and one of the best in the entertainment business, Derek Hough, will be perfect in the role of Corny Collins, the cocky song-and-dance-man who hosts the TV show every teenager in Baltimore wants to be on."

Hough, who has been on Broadway, currently recurs on "Nashville." His sister, Julianne Hough, recently starred in Fox's live production of "Grease." Short, known for his work across the board in film, theater and TV, shot to fame on "Saturday Night Live." He'll next be seen on NBC's new variety series "Maya and Marty."

NBC is currently searching for an unknown actress to take on the role of Tracy Turnblad in the 1960s-set musical.

Alex Rudzinski and Kenny Leon will direct with Craig Zadan and Neil Meron serve as executive producers. Fierstein will write a new teleplay and Jerry Mitchell is choreographing with music and lyrics by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman.

"Hairspray Live!" will film in Los Angeles and air on Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 8 p.m. on NBC.
