Gene Shalit to End 40-Year “Today” Run

"It's enough already," says 84-year-old critic

Mustachioed movie maven Gene Shalit's May review of "Shrek Forever After" will be his last for the "Today" show.

The bushy-haired critic, 84, is leaving the NBC morning show after 40 years. The Shrek review was the last featured in his trademark "Critic's Corner."

"It's enough already," Shalit said in a statement.

The show plans to air a salute to Shalit on Thursday. Executive producer Jim Bell says 40 years on the same show is "a feat unlikely to ever be matched."

Shalit said he isn't retiring, and that he'll do work on the Internet and in commercials.
