A firefighter was injured Monday morning when his sport utility vehicle rolled 150 to 200 feet down an embankment in the Orinda Hills, Fire Marshal Michael Mentink said.
The firefighter had been doing annual fire trail maintenance in northwest Orinda when, at about 9:52 a.m., his sport utility vehicle went off the trail and rolled down an embankment.
The firefighter was trapped inside the vehicle, but firefighters have freed him and he has been transported by ambulance to a hospital.
Mentink said he did not yet have information yet about the firefighter's condition.
Personnel from the Moraga-Orinda Fire District, East Bay Regional Park District, East Bay Municipal Utility District and a medical helicopter responded to the scene.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation, Mentink said.
