Police are investigating the death of 56-year-old Robert Joseph Heiser as a homicide. He was found early Monday after neighbors called police about dogs barking, a police spokesman said.

Police responded to Heiser's residence in the 1400 block of Bay Tree Drive and a short time later found a man lying unconscious inside, Sgt. Pedro Espinoza said. Emergency medical personnel attempted to save his life but he was pronounced dead, Espinoza said.

The women in possession of Heiser’s belongings were last seen at a convenience store on White Road in East San Jose, authorities said. Police don’t know what their connection is to the victim, but they are wanted for questioning.

The man apparently lived by himself at the residence but police said they are still looking into the possibility that someone else also resided there.

This is Gilroy’s first homicide case of 2015, according to police.

Police are requesting anyone with information about the case to call the department's investigations bureau at (408) 846-0350 or to provide information anonymously at the We-Tip line at (800) 782-7463.
