UPDATE: The suspect was fatally shot by police.
A high-speed chase involving shooting suspects apparently ended when the suspect vehicle crashed in East Oakland this afternoon, a police spokeswoman said.
The crash was reported some time after 4 p.m. at 85th Avenue and San Leandro Street, Oakland police Officer Holly Joshi said.
Police were pursuing suspects who were allegedly involved in a shooting elsewhere in the city, Joshi said.
An employee who did not want to be named at Eagle Auto Company, located near the intersection, said after the crash he saw a man in the fleeing car get out and shoot at officers, who shot back.
The employee also said someone in the car that was struck by the suspect vehicle died in the crash, and he saw a body bag on the road.
Joshi was not able to confirm whether there was a death in the crash or if there was an officer-involved shooting as of 5:15 p.m.

Police planned to hold a news conference near the scene of the crash this evening to discuss the incident.
