‘It Was Awesome': Warriors' Stellar Performance in NBA Playoff Opener Thrills Fans

A sellout crowd at Oracle Arena on Saturday watched the Golden State Warriors take apart the Houston Rockets 104 to 78.

The Warriors won Game 1 in the opening round of the NBA playoffs, and fans said they hope it’s the start of something special.

When asked about her favorite player, Angeli Bughao replied: "Steph Curry."

Why? "Because he can make good shots," said the 6-year-old.

Saturday marked Angeli’s first-ever basketball game, according to her aunt, Myrna Boongaling.

"She's very excited," she said. "She's going to brag [about] it with cousins, classmates, and relatives."

Fan David Velasquez was equally enthused.

"Warriors played good defense, good offense," he said.

Oracle Arena, arguably the NBA’s loudest arena, erupted into cheers for the hometown favorites. The Rockets were booed just as loudly.

"It was awesome," Steve Sunden said. "They really got into it."

Deon Goolsby is a lifetime fan, who was also at the arena for last year's playoff run. She said she's cheered for the team through the thick and thin.

"When Jason Richardson was on the team, when Baron Davis was there, Don Nelson – I was coming to the games back then," Goolsby recalled.

"Just the mere thought of winning back-to-back titles, man, that's electric!" she said.
