San Francisco Police Arrest Man Who Broke Window at Indonesian Consulate Building

A man suspected of being high on drugs smashed the glass door at the Consulate General of Indonesia in San Francisco early Tuesday before being taken into custody by police.

Tobias Spencer, 26, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina was booked into San Francisco County Jail on suspicion of vandalism and trespassing, according to San Francisco Police Officer Gordan Shyy.

Police were called out to the building at 1111 Columbus Ave. about 3:30 a.m. after a security alarm was tripped.

Surveillance cameras spotted the man hopping a fence, and entering the building, running up to the second floor, police and consulate officials said.

Authorities told NBC Bay Area that it appeared Spencer might have been on drugs and that he thought he was being chased. He was arrested on scene and did not resist officers.

Nothing was taken from the building, and only the window was broken.

In January, the FBI arrested a 39-year-old Daly City Chinese national "who heard voices" after they said Yan Feng torched the Chinese Consulate in San Francisco, less than two miles away from the Indonesian Consulate.

Surveillance video spotted Feng pouring two buckets of gasoline on the San Francisco building on Laguna Street.

Feng self-surrendered to Daly City police five days after the fire was set, and told the FBI in court documents (PDF) that when he called, he said in Mandarin: "I made the fire."
