San Jose 1968: Historic Moment Born on SJSU Park Bench

In 1968, two San Jose State Students stood on the podium at the Olympics in Mexico City and thrust their fists in the air in a black power salute. The seeds of their protest were planted on a park bench at SJSU by Dr. Harry Edwards.

Watch the video above to hear Dr. Edwards, professor emeritus of sociology at the University of California at Berkeley, describe the moment which was memorialized in a statue 45 years later.
