Two Die in San Francisco Crash

Two people were killed Saturday night in a crash on John Muir Drive in San Francsico.

Police say a Toyota crashed head-on into the passenger side of a Honda that had somehow turned perpendicular to traffic on Lake Merced Boulevard.

Three people who were in the Toyota were transported to San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening injuries, San Francisco police Officer Albie Esparza said.

The two people pronounced dead at the scene were men of about 20 and 21 years old, Esparza said. They were both in the Honda, the roof of which had to be cut off to allow responding authorities to access the victims.

It is unknown how the Honda came to be sitting horizontally across the lanes of traffic on Lake Merced Boulevard before it was struck by the Toyota at about 10:23 p.m. just north of John Muir Drive, Esparza said.

The San Francisco Police Department is investigating the collision.
