Cisco Tries to Go Green Again

Maybe this will work out better for Cisco than the whole NextBus thing.

Pardon us if we're just a little skeptical of Cisco's plans to make "smart buildings" that save energy.

Their "Connected Bus" experiment that failed to integrate with NextBus was, at best, silly; and their Urban EcoMap is cringe-worthy greenwashing. But now here they are with "Smart Buildings," unveiled last week at Cisco Live. Uh huh.

The project involves networked building mediators blah blah blah smart grid blah blah EnergyWise blah sentient homicidal operating system.

It seems to be mostly geared towards enterprise, not home construction; and it's still under development. We'll be sure to let you know when they actually start mass-producing these things, provided we're still alive in the year 2130.
