Man Arrested in Connection With Assault With Deadly Weapon at Graton Casino

Sonoma County Sheriff's detectives arrested a man they believe is responsible for assaulting a 28-year-old woman in Rohnert Park Sunday, sheriff's officials said.

Detectives arrested Daly City resident and 35-year-old Leonel Baul Alinea on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, robbery and burglary, said Sgt. Shannon McAlvain.

The alleged assault took place at the Graton Resort and Casino in Rohnert Park.

Detectives with the Sheriff's violent crimes investigations unit arrested Alinea without incident after he returned to get his car from the casino's parking lot, according to sheriff's officials.

Alinea allegedly struck the victim in the arm, hand and head with a wrench while the victim was sleeping in the passenger seat of her car, sheriff's officials said.

Deputies had responded to the scene at about 3:20 p.m. Sunday. The casino is located at 288 Golf Course Drive W.

Security guards chased the suspect away when they heard the victim's screams Sunday afternoon, but deputies were unable to find the suspect when they arrived at the casino, sheriff's officials said.

The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment of her injuries and upon her request police are not releasing her name now.

Deputies booked Alinea into the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility and he is being held on $100,000 bail awaiting arraignment, sheriff's officials said.

The investigation is ongoing, McAlvain said.
