Police Release Photo of Bullet Fired Into CHP Patrol Car

Investigators released a photo on Thursday of the bullet hole in a CHP patrol car that was shot last week.

The photo was released as part of an effort to rally the public's help in finding out who fired at the CHP patrol car. The photo magnifies the spot where a bullet ripped the exterior of the car's roof. Despite the damage to the car, no officers were injured in this shooting.

San Jose Police Officer Albert Morales said the shooting was reported at 11:36 p.m. on
March 5
northbound U.S. Highway 101 near Story Road. When San Jose police arrived on the scene, they learned a two-officer CHP car was shot at several times. One of those bullets struck the CHP vehicle. The freeway was shutdown momentarily while officers conducted follow up investigation.

Morales said he wasn't sure if the officers were the intended target of the shooting or not. He did note, however, that some have "contempt" for officers, who have an inherently dangerous job.

The San Jose Police are investigating this shooting as an attempted homicide on an officer.

Anyone with information related to this shooting is asked to contact Detective Cruz at (408) 277-4161.
