San Mateo Nippon Gakuyen 100th Anniversary Celebration

In 1919, a Saturday NPO Japanese School located at the San Mateo Buddhist Temple (although not affiliated with the temple), was established in San Mateo primarily to teach Japanese language and culture to the children of Japanese immigrants. However, over the years, the school has embraced the diversity of San Mateo County as evidenced by the student population today, many of mixed racial backgrounds, several with no Japanese blood whatsoever. The school is now 167 students strong. San Mateo Nippon Gakuyen will be holding a celebration on Saturday, Nov 2, 2019 at the College of San Mateo to commemorate the special milestone of and pay tribute to those in the past who have helped make the school what it is today. Join NBC Bay Area anchor, Mike Inouye, as Japan Consul General Tomochika Uyama presents the school with the Japan Foreign Minister's Commendation and former San Francisco Board of Education President, Dr Emily Murase, joins as the Keynote Speaker.
    WHEN: Saturday, November 2, 5:00PM
WHERE: College of San Mateo, Bayview Dining Room
