Man in Afghan Army Uniform Kills NATO Soldier

A NATO soldier was shot dead Monday night in southern Afghanistan by a man wearing an Afghan army uniform, Reuters reported. In addition to killing the one soldier, the attack, which took place in Helmand's Gereshk district, wounded six other soldiers according to police officials. In a statement, NATO's International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) confirmed that one of its personnel was killed by a man in an Afghan National Army uniform, but did not disclose the soldier's nationality. However, the Afghan Ministry of Interior said the soldier killed in the apparent green-on-blue attack was a British national. At least 63 NATO-led personnel have been killed in 47 insider attacks across Afghanistan last year, which has eroded the trust between Afghan soldiers and their foreign counterparts. The coalition plans to withdraw most of its troops by the end of 2014.
