The people in charge of traffic in the city of San Francisco are warning drivers that this will be a challenging weekend to navigate the streets of the city by the Bay.
The highlights are a Critical Mass bike ride on Friday and a marathon on Sunday.

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) advises San Francisco residents and visitors of the following event-related traffic and service impacts this weekend, Friday, July 29 through Sunday, July 31. Event participants and fun seekers should check with www.sfmta.com or call 311 to find out which of the 80 Muni lines will get them where they want to go.
Critical Mass
On Friday the monthly Critical Mass bicycle ride will leave from Justin Herman Plaza sometime after 6 p.m.
Motorists and transit riders may be delayed as the bicycle ride passes. Roads will re-open as soon as bicyclists have passed.

Visitacion Valley Library Grand Opening
On Saturday a grand opening celebration for the new Visitacion Valley Branch Library will take place at 201 Leland Avenue. Festivities begin at 1 p.m. and library services start at 2 p.m.
Leland Avenue between Rutland and Cora streets will be closed between 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
SF Marathon
On Sunday the annual San Francisco Marathon will begin from The Embarcadero and Mission at 5:30 a.m., with staggered starts until 6:30 a.m. The race route will loop north along The Embarcadero, through the Presidio, the outer Richmond District, Golden Gate Park, the Haight, the Mission District, Inner Bayview and back to The Embarcadero. An attendance of up to 20,000 runners is expected.
From midnight, Saturday to 2:30 p.m., Sunday, the following street closures are required:
- Northbound Embarcadero between Broadway and King Street
- King Street between northbound Embarcadero and 3rd Street
- Steuart Street between Howard Street and the Southerly Terminus
- Eastbound Howard Street between The Embarcadero and Spear Street
- Southbound Embarcadero between Broadway and Harrison Street
Various additional street closures will be required between 5 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. throughout the race route including in the Presidio and Golden Gate Park. A detailed list with suggested detours can be found at www.thesfmarathon.com.

The Up Your Alley Street Fair will be held on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
