    Niners Awarded Sports Team of the Year for Philanthropic Efforts

    Joanne Pasternack, Vice President & Executive Director of Community Relations & 49ers Foundation, receives the Sport Team of the Year Award from Avraham Burg, Former Speaker of the Knesset and Chairman of Mifalot on Oct. 20 in London.

    The Niners have beat out both amateur and professional sport teams across the world to receive a global award for philanthropy.

    Joanne Pasternack, the Vice President and Executive Director of Community Relations and the 49ers Foundation, accepted the Sport Team of the Year Award from Beyond Sports on the team's behalf on Tuesday in London.

    Other nominees for the honor are Chicago Fire Soccer Club, England's Saracens Rugby Club and German soccer club SV Werder Bremen.

    According to a team news release, the 49ers Foundation donated $4.6 million to the Bay Area community in 2014.

    Among the team's many initiatives that focus on students, a second Leadership Institute supported by the Foundation opened at Santa Clara High School in February.

    The Niners were also named a finalist for this year's ESPN Sports Humanitarian Team of the Year.
