Santa Clara County sheriff's are helping their counterparts investigate a disturbing find.
A high profile case just south of the Bay Area has taken a gruesome turn.
Monterey police said the body found just off Highway 101 south of the Santa Clara County line two weeks ago had been dismembered.
The victim has been identified as Norife Jones, a 29 year old from San Jose. Her estranged husband, a professor at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, is suspected of killing her.
Monterey police on Wednesday said that 69-year-old Lawrence Jones shot his ex-wife inside their home in Monterey and then dismembered her body before dumping body parts in Aromas.
"It has been determined that Ms. Jones died as a result of gunshot wounds and was then dismembered," police Lt. Leslie Sonne told KSBW.
Jones is being held without bail at the Monterey County jail.
KSBW reported Norife Jones lived with Lawrence Jones in Monterey and New Mexico for several years. Investigators believe she recently moved from San Jose back to Monterey to live with her estranged husband before she was slain.
In the hours after the body was discovered, there was speculation it could be that of missing Morgan Hill teenager Sierra LaMar. By nightfall investigators said it was not Sierra.
