Stephen Buel will serve as the new editor-in-chief of the San Francisco Examiner.

The San Francisco Examiner has named Stephen Buel as its new editor in chief.

The newspaper on Friday announced the promotion on Buel, who was previously its city editor.

He brings more than 30 years of journalism experience to his new role and he replaces longtime Examiner editor Deirdre Hussey, who left the paper earlier this year.

Before he joined the Examiner in January 2011, Buel worked for more than nine years as the top editor for the East Bay Express.
